Reading speed test FAQ

How does the reading speed test work?

The reading speed test times you while you read a short passage, then asks a few comprehension questions. It divides the passage word count by your reading time to calculate words per minute, and reports your comprehension alongside it so the score is honest.

What is a good reading speed test score?

Most adults read silently at about 200 to 300 words per minute. Around 300 to 400 WPM is above average, and a sustainable speed reading pace usually sits between 400 and 700 WPM as long as comprehension stays high.

Does the reading speed test measure comprehension?

Yes. After the timed read, the test asks comprehension questions about the passage, because reading speed only counts if you remember what you read. Your suggested starting speed in RSVP Reader adjusts based on how well you did.
